For Immediate Release Questions: Colleen Zimmer 315-415-8546 New Stories from the Land of Oz The Oz-Stravaganza! committee plans to publish a book containing the winning stories from the past years of the Royal Historian of Oz writing contest. Writers in four age groups from 3rd grade through adult have written Oz stories and the winners have been awarded prizes by the International Wizard of Oz Club. The kickstarter organization has approved the project to publish the book and is seeking donations for the project. Now is the time for anyone interested in participating in the Oz-Stravaganza! 2012 parade or park to register. Oz-Stravaganza! 2012 Grand Marshal Announcement
The Oz-Stravaganza! committee is proud and honored to announce that Gregory Maguire will serve as Grand Marshal of the 34th annual Oz-Stravaganza! parade, themed “The Wonderful Witches of Oz”, which kicks off at 2:00 PM Saturday June 2nd. In addition he will be part of the Friday June 1st kickoff program at Chittenango High School. Many new and exciting guests and events as well as the longtime favorites will be part of Oz weekend, June 1st - 3rd. The 4th annual “Community Night Out” dinner dance will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 7:00 P.M. until 11:00 P.M. at the Rusty Rail, Route 5, Canastota, New York. The annual event sponsored by the Oz-Stravaganza! Committee is held to raise money to bring special guests to Oz-Stravaganza!. Live music for dancing will once again be provided by Aaron Velardi and special guests. Tickets which are $15 each include a wide variety of live music from 7:00 P.M.–11:00 P.M., a buffet dinner from 8:00 P.M.–10:00 P.M., soda and coffee all evening, and door prizes. The event is a great opportunity to socialize with friends and neighbors while supporting a great cause. Munchkin Karl Slover passed away Tuesday, November 15 in Dublin, Georgia at age 93. Slover who had participated in the annual Oz-Stravaganza! festivals in Chittenango for the past 20 years played the role of the First Trumpeter on the Yellow Brick Road in the Munchkinland scene of the 1939 MGM classic film, “The Wizard of Oz”. Slover was born September 21, 1918. He will be remembered for his upbeat personality and infectious laugh. One of the highlights of the annual Munchkin panel at Oz-Stravaganza! was listening to Slover sing “We’re Off To See The Wizard”.
